How can I maximize the life of my Subaru?
If you have recently purchased a Subaru vehicle from our Pfaff Subaru dealership, or from another dealership in your area and you are looking for ways to maximize its life, then you have come to the right place. Your Subaru vehicle is a high-end piece of machinery that should be treated with care for its entire life span. It is also beneficial to treat your Subaru with care to ensure that it keeps the same performance for years down the road. This included keeping up with routine maintenance, oil changes, fluid top-ups, the whole nine yards. Our service department at Pfaff Subaru can take care of all of this for you on a regular basis. However, are there any other things that you can do to maximize the life of your Subaru vehicle? In this blog by Pfaff Subaru, we take a look at this.
Try to avoid bad habits with your Subaru vehicle
If you are aware of the little things that can affect your Subaru vehicle negatively, it can go a long way with keeping your Subaru in tip-top condition. Things like idling for too long, hammering on the gas, not keeping up with oil changes and fluid changes, etc. Below, we have listed a few things that you can do every day that can help preserve and extend the life of your prized possession, your Subaru vehicle!
Starting your Subaru:
When you start your Subaru, make sure you have accessories like the headlights, windshield wipers, air conditioning, or heater and defroster off before turning the ignition. This helps preserve power in your vehicle, and you can turn them on after startup. Also, don’t rev the engine thinking it will warm the vehicle up in cold weather. Simply give it time, and the oil pump will lubricate, and get the vehicle ready to go.
Driving your Subaru:
While you’re on the road, make sure you pay attention to warning lights, because they let you know of critical mechanical and electrical information. Be sure to find the nearest place to get service, because even driving a few blocks can cause lots of potential damage, or overheating, and loss of oil pressure. Doing simple things like making a full stop before shifting into drive, reverse, or park will help, as it adds life to the transmission and clutch. Also, be sure that your gas tank always has at least a quarter tank in it, so sediment and other fuel cloggers don’t get inside.
Parking your Subaru:
We always recommend that after parking, you use the parking brake, especially on an incline, as that adds strain on the transmission, and is a safety issue. Also, it’s a good practice to turn the steering wheel with ease when you can as hard turns can take a toll on fluids, hoses, and pumps.
These are just a few of the things that you can do in your Subaru every day that can go along way with maximizing the life of the vehicle.
